Hurricanes wrap up regular season this Sunday

September 20, 2018

The men’s baseball Hurricanes will wrap up their Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association schedule this weekend with a pair of games in Halifax against Dalhousie University Saturday afternoon; they will then host the St. FX X-men Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field. The Hurricanes lead the CCBA Atlantic Division with a perfect 6-0 (won-lost) record.

Saturday, the Hurricanes will get a look at the Dalhousie University Tigers (2-7), with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM at Mainland Commons Field in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ryan Abraham, of Halifax, is expected to start game one for the Hurricanes. Abraham is 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA through his first two starts of the season. Tyler Johnston (2-0, 0.70 ERA) is the probable starter for game two.

The Tigers split their games with the Acadia University Axemen September 16th, winning game one 8-2 before dropping the second game 7-3.

Sunday, the Hurricanes will host the St. FX X-men at Memorial Field in the team’s final home date of the season. Chandler Laporte is projected to take the mound to face the X-men, who are tied for 2ndplace in the CCBA Atlantic Division with a 4-4 record. Laporte (1-0, 7.00 ERA) is looking for a bounce-back start after surrendering three runs in two innings against the University of New Brunswick Reds on September 16th. It is expected that Charles MacLellan (0-0, 2.80 ERA) will have the ball for the second game Sunday.

Head Coach Andrew MacNevin says the team is ready to be back on the diamond at Memorial Field. “The guys always have an extra jump in their step when we play at home. The atmosphere is great to compete in, and we are looking forward to wrapping up the CCBA schedule with a pair of games against a very competitive St. FX team.”

The X-men will visit the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (3-4) Saturday before making the trip to the Island Sunday.

The games at Memorial Field are scheduled for 12:00 and 2:30 PM.
